Van Gogh Time

An art history mystery! (I know you’re not supposed to pronounce his name that way.)

I made this activity pack a while ago, and printed it out for my 8 year old who LOVED it and insisted she get the next instalments immediately… but then I misjudged how important the crime solving element was going to be, and obscured the clues so that the revelation was a ‘twist’. Never been more disappointed in myself as when she read the final letter and visibly deflated.

So (after a period of reflection/avoidance) I’ve revised it with bigger CLUES and a more natural conclusion. I hope young detectives will not be confounded by it.

I’ve listed it on Etsy! I spent the last part of 2025 trying to create an Instagram presence (which is where I should be putting this information by the way) – but progress is glacial, and without an Instagram presence nobody will find this website… Etsy at least has customers already there searching for products, and I’m throwing my hat in the ring. This should be a separate post. So anyway – Van Gogh time is Out There.

Now that I’ve finished it I would like to do similar immersive studies, but without repeating the format exactly… is such a thing possible? My current thoughts are maybe some kind of trip to The Renaissance, or Andy Warhol/Frida Kahlo/Salvador Dali seem like interesting characters to build a story around.

I think I’ll let it percolate and work on some quicker material – I’m thinking CELEBRATIONS and GARDENING. Those are the things I’m thinking about most of the time actually. Maybe that should be my tagline. Kate Marston: celebrations and gardening.
